Gifted and appreciated!

Before we left for vacation, I was trying to get two quilts done so that I could deliver them in person and not have to count on the Post Office.  Plus, delivering them and seeing the reactions of the recipients is so gratifying!

This one, which I blogged about here, was going to my nephew. He lived with us for a year back in 2013, and then again last summer/fall on his semester break from school. At Christmas, I told him I was going to make a quilt for him. I don’t think he believed me.

I, in turn, wasn’t sure exactly what his reaction would be. It’s a fan-based quilt, after all, and I didn’t know if he would be too “cool” to like it! But he did! He seemed genuinely happy to receive it, which made me happy, too!

Here is the back.

This one went to my sister-in-law. In the past, I have made wedding quilts for every one of her kids, and then baby quilts for each grandchild, but never one for her and my brother. In the last year, they have helped with my oldest daughter’s wedding open house and allowed us to use their house as a hotel, even though we didn’t get to spend much time with them. (And she even fixed us scrambled eggs at 11:00 at night because we were starving by the time we arrived one evening).  And then in January, they let my middle daughter stay with them for a couple of days before she left on a mission for our church. Over and over again, they have been there for us and our kids, so it was definitely time for a quilt to show our appreciation.

You can’t tell from the photo, but that border is a print of little apples. I used that because Anette has been a school teacher forever, so the border was a little nod to that. The backing fabric was also a school themed fabric.

Anyway, her reaction was just what I hoped it would be! She loved the quilt!

It’s always nice to have one’s work appreciated!

Now, I can finish the second Star Wars quilt in time for my son’s birthday at the end of the month!
